Tawny Owls Y1

Autumn Term – On the Farm

Welcome to Tawny Owls!

We hope you are all having a wonderful summer and are looking forward to becoming a Tawny Owl. We are certainly looking forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks!

What a fabulous term we have coming up! :) Our learning will focus a lot around farms, including: looking at the different types of farms, learning about plants, and exploring a range of farm based stories.

Mrs Pearce will be with us on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Mrs Sansom will be with us on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Miss B will support our learning throughout the week.

Mrs Quartermain will support our learning on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

On Thursdays we will have PE with Mr Pearce in the morning, and Forest School with Mrs Howlett in the afternoons. You will need to come into school wearing your PE kit and bring your forest school clothes to change in to after lunch.

Look out for some pictures of our classroom over the next couple of weeks :)

See you soon!

Mrs Pearce, Mrs Sansom, Miss B and Mrs Quartermain

This term we will begin by revisiting some of the digraphs that we learnt during our time in Elf Owls. We will be consolidating our learning and applying it to both our reading and writing.

  • Staffing -  This term, Mrs Pearce will teach Tuesdays-Fridays.  Mrs Sansom will teach Mondays. Mrs Quartermain will support our learning on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Mrs Sansom will support our learning on Thursdays and Fridays. Miss B will support our learning each day.
  • Each morning the children need to arrive at school between 8:45 am and 9:00 am. The blue gate will open at 8:45 am and close at 9:00 am
  • Home time is at 3:30 pm and the children will walk round to the gate at the top of the playground where they will be dismissed by a member of staff.
  • The children will need to bring in a named water bottle each day.
  • PE this term will take place on Thursday mornings with Mr Pearce.
    • Children will need to come into school wearing their PE kit. Please make sure that all of your children's items are NAMED so they can easily be recognised. We all know how unpredictable the British weather can be and the children will be doing PE both inside and outside, so send them in with layers and a waterproof. The children will need to be wearing the following items:
      • A plain white PE top
      • Navy or black bottoms. These could include:
        • shorts
        • joggers
        • leggings
      • A plain blue or black PE jumper
      • A pair of trainers
  • Reading Books - each Friday the children will bring home a Monster Phonics book, plus another book of their choice. The children will read the Monster Phonics book during our Guided Reading sessions before bringing it home to share with you. Please continue to sign the reading diaries each time you read at home. The reading diaries should be in school every day. The children have a zipped plastic wallet to keep their diary and reading books in. This must be with the books each day.
  • Homework - the children will bring home one piece of homework in their green folders. This is a consolidation activity where the children can practise the learning that they have done in class. The children should be able to complete this activity quite confidently by themselves.
