Boreal Owls Y4
February 2025
Happy New Term! We hope you've all managed to get some rest over the holiday and are looking forward to another term of exciting learning. Mrs Pinto will be back in school this week and returns to teaching as normal next Monday and Tuesday (week 2).
Year 3 and 4 Play : We will be rehearsing for our play this term called 'The Donkey's Tail'. The performances will be Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th March at 2.15pm. The children all have scripts and everybody who wanted a speaking part has one. Please help by ensuring your child practices their words and knows them by heart. Further information about any costumes will follow soon, but rest assured there will not be any complicated requests!
Forest School: This term, the children will be thrilled to know that it is their turn to have Forest School on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Howlett! Children will be outside in all weathers so please make sure they have plenty of warm layers (including hats, scarves, gloves) waterproof trousers, a warm coat and waterproof footwear. Please can you make sure everything is named and bring kits to school on a Thursday when we will give them time to get changed.
PE Days: PE days will be Monday (morning) and Wednesday (afternoon) this term. Please ensure your child wears the correct, smart PE kit (dark colours, no large logos) on that day, hair tied back and earrings preferably removed before school.
Guitars: Our guitar lessons continue this term on Thursdays. Please ensure your child has their guitar with them on that day.
Homework/ Spellings and TTRS: The children should be reading daily (and answering questions about the story) and recording it in their reading journals at least three times a week. Times Table practise using Rockstars or old fashioned verbal recital and quick fire questioning is positively encouraged too! By the end of year 4, the National Curriculum expectation is that children should know all their times tables fluently. www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button is another good tables website. A fortnightly maths sheet is sent home based upon the children's learning in the classroom for that week. Spelling tests will still be on a Monday and start again next week (week 2 of term). The children will also have a creative grid, the same as they did last term. A copy will be posted below.
Reading records: Reading records will still be checked every Monday morning and we expect children to read three times a week (minimum) to an adult and record it in their yellow diary. There are a number of children who are consistently forgetting to bring their reading record in every week - if your child is one of these then please let us know and we can help locate it or find them a new one.
Reading book: We will still be reading 'The Secrets of a Sun King' by Emma Carroll this term. Thank you for your support in buying a copy! If you still need to purchase a copy, it is currently available second hand for £3.75 on Amazon. This is a voluntary purchase, but we really appreciate your support in buying a copy as it helps your child to benefit even more from their reading in class.
Contacting us: If there is something worrying you, we would much rather you talk to us about any problems sooner rather than later. Please catch us at the end of the day or email us through the office.
